Old Soviet Submarine Demagnetizing Base between Virve And Hara Village In Estonia
After Soviet Union had occupied Estonia in the World War 2 they soon started building military bases around the country. Between 1956-1958 Soviet forces built a submarine base into the Hara bay. At the time it was one of the three submarine demagnetizing bases in the world with cables reaching 18 km from the mainland to the neutral waters of the Baltic sea. My grandmother grew up in the Virve village by Hara bay and during the Soviet times the whole coastal area was packed with Soviet bases.
